The Forge of Innovation:
Redefining Scholarly Horizons in Science
Our Story
Rising in the heart of Region III, the Regional Science High School (RSHS) stands as a beacon of innovation and resilience. Originally built in the 1950s to support the US Naval Base in Subic, the school’s facilities were handed down from a bygone era. Once serving the children of military personnel, these structures have since transformed into a sanctuary for young minds eager to explore the wonders of Science and Technology. RSHS III, officially opened on June 6, 1994, under the management of then-Olongapo City Mayor Katherine H. Gordon and SBMA Chairman Richard J. Gordon, the school was transferred to the former U.S. Naval Base, Subic Bay, near present-day Mondriaan Aura College. It was later relocated to its current location at a former elementary school in East Kalayaan called George Dewey Elementary School, later renamed Kalayaan Elementary School.
Established in 1994 under DECS Order No. 69 s. of 1993, RSHS III is located in East Kalayaan, Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Olongapo City, Zambales. The school implements a specialized Science and Mathematics-Oriented Curriculum for above-average students inclined toward Science and Technology, offering Science, Math, and English at a higher level. RSHS III houses both a Junior High School and a strand-focused Senior High School. Most students are residents of nearby cities and provinces, primarily from Olongapo City, Bataan, and Zambales.
Setting its Commitment to Excellence, RSHS III’s initiative to enrich the
curriculum with Creative Technology approved by Region III to be adopted by different Legislated Science High Schools in Region III. RSHS piloted the Enhanced Science Curriculum in School Year 2022-2023. This curriculum is set for its final implementation in School Year 2025-2026. The RSHS Teachers of Science, Math, Research, and Creative Technology, along with Education Supervisors in their respective fields from Region III, critiqued and approved the curriculum.
